Isn’t it a pleasure to put a smile on someone’s face? A smile that the world will stop and stare for a while? Himalaya Lip Care in collaboration with ‘Smile Train India’ aims to provide healthy, nourished lips thereby bringing natural smile on the faces of million children who are born with a cleft lip and palate through their joint initiative called ‘ Ek Nayi Muskaan’.
A cleft is an opening or gap on the upper lip or mouth, or both. A cleft is one of the most common birth anomalies which occurs when certain body parts and structures do not fuse together properly during fetal development. Clefts can involve the lip, the roof of the mouth (palate), and the soft tissue in the back of the mouth. In India, more than 35,000 babies are born every year with cleft lip and/or palate. Children with untreated clefts live in isolation, but more importantly, face difficulties in eating, breathing, and speaking. Cleft repair is a safe surgery and the transformation is immediate, giving these children a chance to live a happier and healthier life. However, many children wait for years to get a surgery, as lack of awareness and financial challenges deprive them of timely medical care.
45 minutes can change a child’s life forever! Cleft repair is a safe surgery and the transformation is immediate. Children see their forever smile for the first time, parents cry tears of joy, lives and communities are changed forever.
The Himalaya Drug Company, in collaboration with Smile Train India, a non-profit organization, introduced an initiative called Muskaan in 2015. The initiative provides financial support for cleft lip and palate surgeries for underprivileged children in India. Himalaya endeavors to create awareness about the importance of early intervention and treatment for children born with clefts. Himalaya, along with Smile Train India, aims to reach out to children from underprivileged families in need of corrective cleft lip and palate surgeries, to ensure they receive proper treatment at a young age and get an opportunity to live healthy and productive lives.
Himalaya strives to give renewed hope to children and their families through Muskaan. In partnership with Smile Train India, Himalaya’s Muskaan initiative has been able to touch and transform the lives of more than 500 underprivileged children directly under our patronage and more than 200 children through our awareness campaign with ETV Kannada in 2016.
Through our nationwide initiative, we wish to spread smiles on the faces of kids born with cleft lips and palates. We don’t want this birth difference to restrict any child from living life to the fullest!
We will only continue to strive toward spreading Happiness and Wellness across the country!
